Objective
Pistachio rootstocks showed differences in 5 to 6 years period of vegetative growth after budding. This study was designed to evaluate the growth differences among the rootstocks and to find economically and developmentally the most suitable rootstock.
Materials and Methods
Ohadi, Kirmizi, Uzun, Halebi and Siirt varieties budded on buttum (Pistacia.khinjuk), atlantic(P.atlantica), and seedling of pistachio (P. vera) were measured and examined to determine the growth of body and crown. The circumstances of budding place, above and below of this place (cm) and the volume of the crown (cm3) were measured.
Results
Atlanticshowed the fastest vegetative growth rate within the present rootstocks. Seedling of pistachio rootstock culture showed the slowest growth, whereas growth rate of buttum was found to be between these two rootstocks.
Circular pistachio varieties of Siirt and Ohadi budded on rootstocks become productive three years earlier than the tall pistachio varieties of Uzun, Kirmizi and Halebi. Budded rootstocks didn’t show any effect on circular pistachio varieties due to short young’s infertility period. Circular varieties produce fruits after 5 years whereas the other varieties produce fruits after 8 years. This result is very important because of determination of varieties which could became productive in a short time and these varieties should be used widely.
