Objective
In this study, three pistachio varieties budded on Pistacia vera L. were seeded on different rows in distance under dry conditions and their growth level andproductivity were evaluated. The objective of this study was to determine the most suitable seeding distance for these 3 standard varieties for plantation of pistachio orchards under dry conditions and regional ecology and for the highest profit.
Materials and Methods
P.veraseedlings were seeded in distance of 4x8 m, 6x8 m and 8x8 m under dry conditions. Standard Uzun, Siirt, and Ohadi varieties were budded on rootstocks became budding thickness. Volume of crown (m3), productivity (g/cm2), pistachios with dried red shell per 1000 m2 (kg/da), yield per tree (kg/tree), weight of 100 pistachios (g), and cracked ratio (%) were analysed to determine the growth rate of the trees and properties of fruits.
Results
Siirt and Ohadi varieties started to produce fruits after 8 years of budding whereas Uzun needed extra 3 years to produce fruits without effecting from the seeded distances on the rows. Data obtained last three years showed that Siirt variety produced 3.88 and 2.78 kg pistachios/tree in the 8x8 and 4.8 m orchards, respectively. Siirt variety gave 80.66 kg/da, and 56.15 kg/da yield obtained from 4x8 and 8x8 m orchards, respectively. The yield of 6x8 m seeded distance in the orchard was between these two values. The yield of the other varieties in 4x8m seeded distance was found to be higher than 8x8 m.
Different seeded distances found to be effective on vegetative growth after 14 years of seeding. Thickness of the root and the crown volume of the trees were developed in the 8x8 m seeded distance in the orchard.
The yield, cracked ratio, and the weight of 100 fruit of Siirt and Ohadi were found to be higher without effecting from the different seeding distance. The development of root thickness of Siirt and Uzun varieties were found to be higher than Ohadi whereas the volume of crown was not fount to be different.
