Objective
Turkey is one of the gene centre of pistachios and it has the biggest pistachio production fields but the yield obtained 40 – 50 kg/da due to dry growth conditions. Pistachio production fields were increasing day to day pistachios are seeded increasingly in plate and dry fields. This study was done to obtain knowledge about growth of pistachios and how much income farmers could get from the pistachio production.
Materials and Methods
Uzun, Siirt, and Ohadi varieties budded on Pistacia vera L. rootstocks were seeded in 1x7 m and 8x8 m distance in intensive and dry conditions, respectively. In entansife conditions, 4 times irrigation was applied with suggested fertiliser. In every treatment, 1 kg samples were taken and analysed to determine the weight of dried pistachios with red shell and 100 pistachios, cracked ratio, the yield of inside fruit and the productivity per da.
Results
Average yield and total income of Siirt variety gave the best results in dry and entansife conditions. Siirt, Uzun and Ohadi varieties grown in watery conditions were found to be 4.87, 4.07, and 4.04 times more economical. The inside fruit yield was not changed their characteristic but cracked ratio was effected by intensive conditions however, the weight of 100 fruit was increased.
Siirt produced 262.2 kg productin dry conditions whereas it produced 56 kg dried red shell product in 8x8 m seeding distance in dry conditions. Tax free income from the Siirt varieties was 18.4 million in watery conditions, on the other hand, it was 3.8 million in dry conditions.
