SELECTION OF MALE TYPES FOR SOME IMPORTANT PISTACHIO VARIETIES IN GAZIANTEP AND SURROUND REGION

Objective
The objective of this research was selection of the most suitable male types for the important varieties of Uzun, Halebi, Kirmizi, Siirt and Ohadi.
Materials and Methods
In 1993, 20 male types considered as suitable were chosen as materials in orchards in Gaziantep region by observations. The most suitable male types for important varieties were analysedin 1994. The strength of growth of male types, growth rate, blooming time, the time of blossom stage matched with varieties, the number ofbloom bunch on secondary branch, the number of bloom bunch on shots, the length of bloom bunch, the number of bloom in the bunch, the quantity of pollen production, the ratio of alive pollen, the pollen germination ratio, the storage time of pollen, the occurrence of fruit from pollen, and some quality properties were determined during this period.
Results
The number 30 male typefor Uzun and Halebi, the number 14 male type for Siirt and Kirmizi, and the number 3 and 46 male types found in the same orchard for Ohadi were found to be suitable according to the most important properties of the male types.
The pollinator number 30 male type for Uzun and Halebi, number 14 male type for Siir and Kirmizi and number 46 and 3 male types for Ohadi were called as Uygur, Atli, Kaska, and Koc which were at the patentability stage.
